The government shutdown means that talent management and HR professionals now have to navigate the impacts of the U.S. government suspension of funding for non-essential services. The impact is largely felt by the Department of Labor, which relies on government funding. Many DOL functions have been suspended, including its inability to accept any new applications related to the PERM labor certifications process or new applications for Labor Condition Applications related to H-1B petitions, extensions or transfers.
“Many of our clients put a lot into recruiting and retaining the best talent available, so this shutdown brings these efforts to a halt because they are unable to make timely submissions to the Department of Labor,” explained CTSW’s Shirley Tang. “HR and talent management professionals should stay up to date on the availability of government services they rely on to bring talent in the door.”
